Sumitomo Corp. Sells Ginza Retail Building to Kubara Honke Group

Sumitomo Corp. sold Ginza 2-chome Namiki Garden Building (formerly Ginza Arai Building) in Ginza 2-chome, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, in March 2026 to Kubara Honke Group Head Office, the operator of the Kayanoya dashi brand and other food labels. Sumitomo Corp. had acquired the property from Hulic in March 2025, making this a disposition after roughly one year of ownership.

The property sits along Namiki-dori, a one-minute walk from Ginza-itchome Station on the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line. Completed in 1990, the six-story building has a gross floor area of approximately 116 tsubo (approx. 4,100 sq. ft.). It is occupied by the new Ginza flagship store of GINZA Global Style, a made-to-measure suit retailer.

Buyer Kubara Honke is a food manufacturer headquartered in Kasuya-gun, Fukuoka Prefecture. It operates more than 30 directly run stores nationwide, mainly in department stores and shopping centers, and follows a manufacturer-retailer model in which directly operated stores and mail order account for the bulk of its sales.

The company opened its flagship store, Kayanoya Tokyo Ginza, in Ginza 3-chome, Chuo-ku, in November 2025. The two-story street-front store, with 60 tsubo (approx. 2,100 sq. ft.) of retail space and design supervised by Kengo Kuma, is positioned as a base for promoting dashi culture in Japan and abroad. This building stands a few minutes' walk from that store and gives the company a second foothold in the Ginza area, though it has not disclosed how it plans to use the property.
