Mitsui Fudosan, Kanden Realty & Development to Build 12,500-Capacity Arena on Former Kubota Headquarters Site in Osaka
Kubota Corporation, Mitsui Fudosan, and Kanden Realty & Development announced on August 5, 2026, that they had signed a basic agreement concerning the utilization of Kubota's former head office site in Naniwa Ward, Osaka City. Mitsui Fudosan and Kanden Realty & Development will serve as the development operators, considering a mixed-use development anchored by a multipurpose arena accommodating approximately 12,500 people, together with a hotel and retail facilities. The opening is scheduled for 2032 or later.
The project site has a site area of approximately 7,300 tsubo (approx. 259,800 sq. ft.). Kubota had maintained its head office on the site for approximately 130 years, and the company relocated its headquarters to Grand Green Osaka in May 2026 (see related article: Kubota Relocates Headquarters to Grand Green Osaka).
The arena is intended for multipurpose use, including sports and music events. In addition to a hotel catering to accommodation demand from arena visitors and inbound tourists, the plan includes retail facilities that will generate everyday foot traffic even on non-event days. The district has been named Kubota field, and the arena is planned to be called (Tentative Name) Kubota LaLa arena. Mitsui Fudosan will be the business entity for the arena, while Kanden Realty & Development will be the business entity for the hotel and retail facilities.
Kubota conducted a public solicitation for operators to utilize the site starting in October 2025, and selected Mitsui Fudosan and Kanden Realty & Development as preferred negotiation partners in May 2026. This project is planned to exceed both LaLa arena TOKYO-BAY, a roughly 11,000-capacity arena Mitsui Fudosan operates in Funabashi City, Chiba Prefecture, and (Tentative Name) Nagoya Arena, a roughly 10,000-capacity arena under development in Nagoya City, making it the largest of the company's multipurpose arenas in the 10,000-plus capacity category (see related article: Mitsui Fudosan, Toyota Tsusho, and KDDI Break Ground on Nagoya Arena).
