Rosewood To Open in Roppongi 5-Chome Redevelopment by Mori Building, Sumitomo Realty

Mori Building and Sumitomo Realty & Development selected Rosewood as the hotel operator for the Roppongi 5-Chome West District Type 1 Urban Redevelopment Project, which the two companies are jointly pursuing. It will be the brand’s first opening in Tokyo.

The hotel will occupy the uppermost floors of the approximately 330-meter main tower. It will have about 200 guest rooms and will work in conjunction with event halls and conference facilities to strengthen the Roppongi area’s MICE function.

Rosewood is a luxury hotel brand founded in Dallas, Texas, in 1979. It has expanded under the “A Sense of Place” concept, reflecting the culture and history of each location. In 2011, Hong Kong-based New World Hospitality acquired Rosewood. It is now the core brand of Rosewood Hotel Group and operates 43 properties across 25 countries. In March 2025, the brand opened Rosewood Miyakojima, its first property in Japan, making this project its second in the country.

The redevelopment is a large-scale mixed-use project on an approximately 10-hectare site near Roppongi Hills. The project will have a Gross Floor Area of approximately 1 million square meters (approx. 10,764,000 sq. ft.). Plans call for an approximately 330-meter mixed-use tower centered on office space in Block A-1 and an approximately 290-meter tower centered on residences in Block B. The project will also include retail, cultural facilities and halls, and is expected to be connected by an underground passage to Roppongi Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line and Toei Oedo Line. The mixed-use tower in Block A-1 will be comparable in height to Azabudai Hills Mori JP Tower and will become a new landmark in the Roppongi area. Completion, originally planned for fiscal 2030, is expected to be delayed due to rising construction costs and labor shortages.
