Columbia Works Acquires 41-Year-Old Naha Hotel for Renovation and 2028 Opening

Columbia Works announced on September 15, 2026, that it has acquired the Ryukyu Sun Royal Hotel in Higashimachi, Naha, and will renovate the entire building for an opening in spring 2028.
The building was completed in 1986 and is of steel-reinforced concrete construction, rising 10 stories above ground with one basement level. The existing frame and exterior walls will be retained to shorten the construction schedule. The room count will be reduced from 135 to 127, and ancillary facilities will include a local shop, a lounge and dining space, a cultural experience space, and a spa and sauna incorporating plants native to Okinawa. Operations will be handled by AMANEK, which runs 12 hotels across Japan under the AMANEK brand.
The former Ryukyu Sun Royal Hotel opened in July 1986 and was operated by Ryukyu Sun Royal Hotel Co., Ltd. of the Marue Group. It had run as a city hotel but closed on March 6, 2026, against a backdrop of aging facilities, labor shortages and shifts in the surrounding hotel market.
Columbia Works launched its NOCTIS hotel brand in June 2025 and is advancing developments in Sotokanda 6-chome, Chiyoda Ward; Maruyamacho 1-chome, Shibuya Ward; Motoazabu 3-chome, Minato Ward; and Taito 1-chome, Taito Ward.
