Hoshino Resorts To Open Hotel Condominium in Hakone’s Gora Area
Hoshino Resorts will open a hotel condominium in Kiga, Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture. The project will be the company’s first newly built for-sale hotel condominium in the Hakone-Gora area. Construction began in November 2025, with completion scheduled for winter 2027 and opening planned for 2028.
The project site is located north of Gora Station on the Hakone Tozan Railway, on a sloped site along the Hayakawa River. IHG’s Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora is located nearby. The building will have four floors above ground and one basement level, with plans to limit the property to 23 guest rooms.
According to statistics from the town of Hakone, the number of visitors to the town in 2025 rose 4% year over year to approximately 21 million, recovering to pre-pandemic levels. Among overnight guests, the number of foreign visitors increased by approximately 28% year over year, with inbound demand driving the recovery.
Against the backdrop of recovering demand, luxury hotel development has continued in the area. Mitsui Fudosan plans to open HOTEL THE MITSUI HAKONE, developed in partnership with Marriott International, in Kowakudani in 2026, while The Sankei Building and Haseko Real Estate Development plan to open Hilton’s LXR Hotels & Resorts in Gora in summer 2028. Hoshino Resorts operates KAI Hakone and KAI Sengokuhara in the Hakone area, and appears to be aiming to capture stay demand from affluent travelers and inbound visitors through the hotel condominium format in this project.
