Tokyu Secures Approval for Redevelopment Project at Fujigaoka Station in Yokohama

Tokyu Corporation obtained government approval on December 15, 2025, for a major redevelopment project in front of Fujigaoka Station on the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line in Yokohama’s Aoba Ward. The project is being advanced in partnership with Showa University, integrating the redevelopment of the Fujigaoka Hospital, the station-front shopping center, and public plaza improvements. Showa University will serve as the project operator. The redevelopment area covers approximately 2.2 hectares, with completion targeted for FY2035.

The plan is divided into three zones. In the Park & Hospital Zone, Showa University Fujigaoka Hospital will be rebuilt with a new 14-story, two-basement hospital tower totaling approx. 23,100 tsubo (approx. 823,000 sq. ft.) and reaching a height of about 60 meters, providing 584 beds. In the Commercial & Residential Zone, the Fujigaoka Station Shopping Center will be replaced with a new mixed-use residential and retail facility rising 10 stories and totaling approx. 4,540 tsubo (approx. 162,000 sq. ft.). The Station Plaza Zone will include a new transportation plaza of approx. 820 tsubo (approx. 29,000 sq. ft.) with dedicated boarding areas for buses, taxis, and private vehicles.

Long known for its greenery, strong transit access, and concentration of medical services, the Fujigaoka Station area faces aging buildings and outdated land use. The redevelopment aims to create an integrated station-front hub unifying the station facilities, hospital, and park spaces.

Tokyu has been accelerating station-area redevelopment along the Den-en-toshi Line. At Saginuma Station in Kawasaki City—one express stop from Fujigaoka—the company plans to break ground in FY2025 on a 2.3-hectare project anchored by a 32-story, approx. 133-meter-tall mixed-use tower, with completion slated for 2031. The successive completion of the Saginuma redevelopment in 2031 and the Fujigaoka project in 2035 is expected to enhance the value of the corridor. In Yokohama, Tokyu, the City of Yokohama, and Urban Renaissance Agency (UR) signed an agreement in January 2025 to begin planning around Aobadai Station, including consideration of replacing the 55-year-old Aobadai Plaza Building. Redevelopment momentum continues to grow across Kanagawa’s Den-en-toshi Line stations, following projects such as Futako-Tamagawa, Tama-Plaza, and Minami-Machida Grandberry Park.
