NTT Urban Development Starts Construction on Mixed-Use Building in Yokohama’s Naka Ward
NTT Urban Development Corporation has started construction on the tentatively named Yokohama Yamashitacho Project, a mixed-use development underway in Yamashitacho, Naka Ward, Yokohama. Completion is scheduled for February 2029.
The plan calls for a nine-story building with a Gross Floor Area of approximately 6,989 tsubo (approx. 248,700 sq. ft.). The first through fifth floors will consist of retail space and an education center, while the fifth through ninth floors will be used for offices. The office floors will have a typical floor plate of approximately 600 tsubo (approx. 21,300 sq. ft.) and can be subdivided into units starting at about 45 tsubo (approx. 1,600 sq. ft.). The project site is located near the North Gate of Yokohama Chinatown and a seven-minute walk from Kannai Station on the JR Negishi Line. A pedestrian deck being developed by the city of Yokohama is expected to connect to the property, helping create a pedestrian route from the Kannai Station area toward Yokohama Chinatown.
In the surrounding area, BASEGATE Yokohama Kannai, a large-scale mixed-use district developed on the former city hall site, opened in March 2026. In an adjacent district, the Kannai Station Front District Type 1 Urban Redevelopment Project is also underway, including two mixed-use buildings with 32 and 20 floors above ground.（see related article:BASEGATE Yokohama Kannai to Open March 2026 on Former Yokohama City Hall Site）The project is planned to contribute to the renewal of business and exchange functions in the Kannai and Yamashitacho area, in coordination with ongoing redevelopment projects nearby.
