NTT Facilities Completes Harajuku Quest Redevelopment, Tenant Openings Underway

NTT Facilities oversaw the design and construction management of the new mixed-use retail complex Harajuku Quest in Jingumae, Shibuya Ward. Following its completion in August, tenant openings have been progressing. The project introduces a new pedestrian flow connecting Omotesando and the Harajuku area, positioning the facility as a new landmark for the district.

The property sits on a site of approximately 592 tsubo (approx. 21,000 sq. ft.) with a Gross Floor Area of about 2,273 tsubo (approx. 81,000 sq. ft.), consisting of two basement levels and six floors above ground. The high-rise section employs steel construction (with partial SRC/RC), while the low-rise section uses reinforced concrete. The building accommodates a mix of retail, F&B, service tenants, office space, and an automobile garage. OMA served as the design architect.

As a redevelopment of the former Harajuku Quest, the project aims to inherit the area's cultural identity established since its 1988 opening, while also ensuring continuity with WITH HARAJUKU, the mixed-use complex completed near Harajuku Station in 2020. A passage running through the site—from the Omotesando side to the Harajuku/Takeshita-dori side—enhances pedestrian circulation and encourages visitor dwell time.

With new retail supply entering the market, including Tokyu Plaza Harajuku “Harakado” and the Jingumae 6-chome Type-1 Urban Redevelopment Project, prime-area rents have continued trending upward. Leveraging its location bridging Omotesando and Oku-Harajuku, as well as its scale, this project adds significant high-end retail stock to meet strong demand from premium-tier tenants.
