Daito Trust, Partners Launch Hotel Development Project on Okinawa’s Kouri Island

Daito Trust Construction announced on May 15, 2026, that it has launched a hotel development project on Kouri Island in Okinawa Prefecture jointly with Nishimatsu Construction, Kyushu Electric Power, Columbia Works, Genkai Capital Management, Columbia Asset Management, Bank of the Ryukyus and others. The project uses a special purpose company structure, with the SPC identified as TSMZ12 Special Purpose Company. Columbia Works is serving as project manager, while hotel operations will be handled by One Suite LLC, which operates luxury hotels and restaurants in Okinawa.
The planned site is located in the southern part of Kouri Island in Nakijin Village, Okinawa Prefecture. It is near Kouri Bridge, which opened in 2005, and close to major tourism areas on the island, including Kouri Beach. The property will be a low-rise, multi-building hotel with a Gross Floor Area of approximately 2,458 tsubo (approx. 87,500 sq. ft.) and 61 guest rooms. Construction started in February 2026, with opening scheduled for April 2028.
The number of visitor arrivals to Okinawa Prefecture reached approximately 10.76 million in 2025, up 11.2% year over year and marking a record high. In northern Okinawa’s main island, the large-scale theme park JUNGLIA OKINAWA opened in July 2025, and in the northern area including Kouri Island, development of lodging facilities is progressing to capture tourism circulation and overnight-stay demand.
Multiple hotel development plans are underway in northern Okinawa’s main island. In Nago City, Sun Frontier Hotel Management plans to open the 156-room Hiyori Hotel Okinawa Nago in July 2027. In Motobu Town, Nippon Steel Kowa Real Estate, Mitsubishi Jisho Residence, Cosmos Initia and Yugafu Holdings are developing QUILL RESORT OKINAWA condominium hotel, a 230-room for-sale condominium hotel scheduled to open in spring 2028. In Nakijin Village, a new 134-room hotel is planned by Keihan Real Estate and Sekisui Heim Tokai, with RIHGA Royal Hotels scheduled to open the property around the end of October 2028. In the northern area including Kouri Island, plans are advancing for lodging assets that can accommodate stay-type tourism.
