Mitsui Fudosan to Reopen NEMU RESORT in 2026 After Major Redevelopment

Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. and Ise-Shima Resort Management Co., Ltd. will undertake a major renovation of the NEMU RESORT resort complex in Shima City, Mie Prefecture, reopening on April 18, 2026. The project will add 18 new villas and a new shared facility, “Hilltop House.”

The new villas will comprise eight “Hills Villas” located on a hilltop and ten “Forest Villas” nestled in the woods, while the existing eight Forest Villas will be converted into “Forest Villa with Dog” units that accommodate guests traveling with their dogs. Each villa will feature a bathroom with a view and a private terrace where guests can enjoy barbecue dining using ingredients sourced from Mie Prefecture. Hilltop House will offer panoramic views of Ago Bay and will include a pool, terrace, and the “Dining Satoyama” restaurant. At the existing hotel, the lobby and restaurant will be renovated, and a kids’ space and a pickleball court will be added.

Set on a site of approx. 676,300 tsubo (approx. 24,065,000 sq. ft.), NEMU RESORT traces its history back to 1967, when it first opened under its former name “Nemu-no-Sato.” Surrounded by the natural environment of Ago Bay and satoyama woodlands, the property is positioned as a nature-oriented resort. The current renovation program will include the reconfiguration of the “Satoyama Suiseien” water garden and the restoration of waterside areas through the use of a water circulation system, with the aim of enhancing biodiversity and expanding environmental education programs.

The Ise-Shima area benefits from rich tourism resources, including Ise Jingu (Ise Grand Shrine). According to tourism statistics published by Mie Prefecture, the Ise-Shima area welcomed approximately 10.82 million visitors in 2023, up 16% year on year. The area is home to a concentration of highly regarded resort properties, such as Shima Kanko Hotel and Amanemu. Leveraging its focus on coexistence with the natural environment and experience-based programs, NEMU RESORT aims to attract a broad customer base, including families and international travelers.
