Hanshin and Hankyu Hanshin to Develop Under-Elevated “Garage House” Rental Project in Kobe’s Higashinada Ward

Hanshin Electric Railway Co., Ltd. and Hankyu Hanshin Properties Corp. are developing a for-rent “garage house” scheme beneath the elevated section of the Hanshin Main Line between Aoki and Uozaki stations. Construction started on November 1, 2025, with completion slated for May 2026 and initial move-ins scheduled for June 2026.
The property is located in Higashinada Ward, Kobe, about a six-minute walk from Hanshin Main Line Uozaki Station and a ten-minute walk from Aoki Station. The project will comprise two-story, maisonette-style rental garage house units with a total gross floor area of approximately 570㎡ (approx. 6,135 sq. ft.). The first floor will be configured as garages for cars and motorcycles, with living space on the second floor. Co-planned with the “DAYTONA HOUSE×LDK” architectural brand, the units are conceived as “hideout”-style spaces that can flexibly serve as second homes, offices, service shops, or hobby rooms.
Hanshin Electric Railway and Hankyu Hanshin Properties are pursuing a strategy of enhancing value along their railway lines by activating under-elevated spaces, and this project is positioned as one of those initiatives, alongside the development of an after-school childcare facility beneath the elevated tracks at Ishiyagawa Station. The Higashinada under-elevated area runs for approximately 3.5 km between Uozaki and Ashiya stations on the Hanshin Main Line. The operators are driving area activation through measures such as opening a drugstore on the first floor of the elevated structure at Fukae Station and rolling out a dedicated logo for the zone. The new scheme will add a lifestyle-oriented component that combines living, working, and leisure uses.
