Tokyu and Sumitomo Forestry Open Retail Facility Centered on Historic Farmhouse at Shin-Tsunashima Station

Shin-Tsunashima MICCA, a retail facility that combines the renovation of the historic Iketani Family Residence Main House with two newly built timber retail buildings, opened on October 28, 2026, in Tsunashima-Higashi 1-chome, Kohoku-ku, Yokohama. Renovation of the old farmhouse was completed on September 30, and the timber retail buildings were completed on October 1. Tokyu planned and promoted the entire project as business consultant, Sumitomo Forestry designed and built the timber retail buildings, and Saisei Kenchiku Kenkyujo handled the master plan and design supervision for the entire site as well as design and supervision of the farmhouse.

The facility is a one-minute walk from Shin-tsunashima Station on the Tokyu Shin-Yokohama Line and a five-minute walk from Tsunashima Station on the Tokyu Toyoko Line. The site area is approximately 2,014 tsubo (approx. 71,700 sq. ft.). It consists of three buildings, OMOYA, a renovated farmhouse built in 1857, and the two-story timber buildings HANARE South and HANARE North, which will be used for restaurants, retail stores, offices and other purposes.

The farmhouse was certified as a Yokohama City Certified Historic Building in January 2024 and designated a Yokohama City Specified Landscape Formation Historic Building in November of the same year. The renovation preserved the original exterior, floor plan and veranda integrated with the garden while upgrading its seismic performance and building systems, reviving it as a restaurant space. The two timber retail buildings use approximately 829 cubic meters of timber and are said to reduce embodied carbon by approximately 34% compared with steel-frame buildings of the same scale.

The Iketani Family Residence Main House is the third building to be designated by the City of Yokohama as a Specified Landscape Formation Historic Building. It is the first such designation in about eight years, since the Former Entsuji Temple Guest Hall (former Kimura Family Residence Main House) in Kanazawa Ward and the Former Fujimoto Family Residence Main House and Arbor in Tsurumi Ward were designated in 2016.
