Tokyo Tatemono and Partner Develop Apartment Hotel in Kumamoto's Shimotori District

Tokyo Tatemono and Nishinippon Shimbun Building are developing Section L Kumamoto, an apartment hotel in Shimotori 1-chome, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto. Construction began in August 2026, with opening scheduled for around spring 2028. World Brands Collection Hotels & Resorts (WBC) will lease the hotel, and Eave Hospitality (operating company: Section L) will operate it. It will be the first property in Kyushu under the Section L brand, which operates 14 facilities nationwide.

The hotel is located in the bustling Shimotori area, with easy access to major tourism and transportation hubs including Kumamoto Castle and the Sakuramachi Bus Terminal. The 12-story building will have 66 guest rooms, all equipped with kitchens. In addition to a fitness gym exclusively for guests, a lounge will be provided, and some rooms are designed to be used as connecting rooms.

Tokyo Tatemono and its partner say that while the number of visitors to Kumamoto is increasing on the back of growing tourism demand, mainly from inbound travelers, and the concentration of semiconductor-related industries, the supply of apartment hotels in the city center that can accommodate group use and medium- to long-term stays remains limited. Nearby, APA Hotel held a groundbreaking ceremony in September 2026 for APA Hotel <Kumamoto Shimotori> (265 rooms), which is scheduled to open in July 2029.

Nishinippon Shimbun Building is the real estate company of the Nishinippon Shimbun Group and develops office buildings, retail facilities and rental apartment buildings mainly in Fukuoka. This is its first participation in hotel development as a joint project. WBC, a subsidiary of Wealth Management, which is listed on the TSE Standard Market, plays a core role in the group's hotel business and owns and operates seven hotels in Kyoto, Osaka and Hokkaido.
