Mazda Establishes New Tokyo R&D Hub at Azabudai Hills
Mazda Motor Corporation announced on July 9, 2025, the opening of its new research and development hub, Mazda R&D Center Tokyo (MRT), on the 49th floor of Azabudai Hills Mori JP Tower in Minato-ku, Tokyo. The company has also relocated and integrated its former Tokyo headquarters—previously based in the Kasumigaseki Building—into the same floor. With a total exclusive floor area of approximately 941 tsubo (approx. 31,095 sq. ft.), the new facility serves as a comprehensive metropolitan hub encompassing research and development, sales, public relations, and recruitment.
At MRT, Mazda has created an environment conducive to software engineers, aiming to accelerate its recruitment efforts. The new Tokyo headquarters will also bolster the company's marketing and enterprise-wide talent acquisition functions, with the overarching goal of becoming a “preferred brand.”
In its domestic business restructuring policy announced in June, Mazda designated urban areas such as Tokyo and Osaka as priority markets, setting an early goal of building a 200,000-unit annual sales structure in Japan based on brand-value-driven management. Mazda Executive Officer Noriyuki Takimura commented, “This initiative is part of our effort to maximize human potential. From Azabudai, which continues to evolve as a diplomatic hub, we aim to deliver uplifting experiences to everyone involved with Mazda,” emphasizing the strategic significance of the new Tokyo base as a platform for enhancing brand value.
