Mitsubishi Estate Launches Proof-of-Concept for Pet-Friendly Rental Housing Project

Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd. has begun testing the business viability of its new “P-man Project,” which proposes new lifestyles for tenants and their pets through the development of pet-friendly rental apartments. The initiative aims to address the needs of single and dual-income households with frequent travel or business trips by providing housing that reduces the anxiety of leaving pets at home.
Following initial trials within existing properties, the company is now moving forward with development of dedicated new-build rental apartments designed for pet co-living.
Planned features include a resident pet sitter and dog daycare center on the first floor, pet-focused interior finishes, remote home management via IoT, and an on-site dog run. Additional resident-only services will include veterinary house calls, partnerships with pet-related manufacturers, car-sharing, and the creation of a mutual-aid community centered around pets.
To advance commercialization, Mitsubishi Estate has signed a basic agreement with Sopra Ginza, a Tokyo-based provider of urban pet services, to collaborate on planning and design supervision. The company plans to validate business feasibility through this proof-of-concept, with the goal of opening the first property within the current fiscal year.
