Aberdeen Investments Acquires Six Central Tokyo Rental Residential Properties
Aberdeen Investments announced on August 17, 2026, that it had acquired six rental residential properties in central Tokyo totaling 275 units through a partnership with Weave Living. The properties were acquired off-market through Weave Living's proprietary deal pipeline.
The six properties were completed between 2023 and 2026. They are located within Tokyo's 23 wards, including Shinjuku, Nakano, Suginami and Toshima wards, and all are within a ten-minute walk of the nearest station. Five properties will be operated as "Weave Place" furnished, flexible rental residences, while the remaining property will be operated as a conventional rental residence.
Aberdeen has been expanding its residential investment in Japan, acquiring three residential properties in 2025 in addition to a residential portfolio comprising 29 properties. As of the end of June 2026, its Japanese residential portfolio comprised 57 properties with a valuation of approximately JPY 150 billion.
Acquisitions of Japanese rental residential assets by overseas investors have continued beyond this transaction. In August 2026, Brookfield acquired 50 apartment properties totaling approximately 3,700 units in the greater Tokyo area, the Osaka area, Nagoya and Fukuoka, entering Japan's multifamily market. Lone Star also acquired a total of 1,166 residential units in Shinkawa and Tsukuda, Chuo Ward, Tokyo, in the same month.
