MC Digital Realty Breaks Ground on Data Center in Ibaraki, Osaka

MC Digital Realty (MCDR), a 50-50 joint venture between Mitsubishi Corporation and U.S.-based Digital Realty, announced on October 7, 2026, that it had broken ground on the KIX15 Data Center at its KIX Campus in the Saito area of Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture. It is the fifth data center at the campus, with service scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2028.

The building will have three floors above ground and one below, with a gross floor area of approximately 5,346 tsubo (approx. 190,200 sq. ft.). Server power capacity will be 24 MW, and the facility will support hybrid air and liquid cooling. Leveraging the scalability of its campus format, it will serve infrastructure demand from hyperscalers, cloud service providers and AI-related companies.

At the KIX Campus, the company operates KIX11, KIX12 and KIX13 following KIX10, which began operations in May 2017. With the opening of KIX15, the company's data centers in Japan will total 10 buildings with a combined server power capacity of approximately 220 MW.

In addition to the KIX Campus, MCDR operates data centers in Mitaka City, Tokyo, and Inzai City, Chiba Prefecture. At the NRT Campus in Inzai, the company opened NRT14, its third building, in April 2026, following NRT10, which opened in 2021, and NRT12, which opened in 2024, bringing the combined server power capacity of the three buildings to 98 MW.
