Toshin Development Breaks Ground on Westlake Square Hanoi, Takashimaya’s First Store in Vietnam
On August 2, Toshin Development Co., Ltd. (a member of the Takashimaya Group) held a groundbreaking ceremony for “Westlake Square Hanoi,” a mixed-use development located within the large-scale township project “Starlake” in Hanoi, Vietnam. The project’s Phase I is scheduled to open in fall 2027, marking Takashimaya’s first store in the Hanoi market.
The development will feature 10 above-ground floors and 3 basement levels. From the first basement to the sixth floor, the building will house the department store “Takashimaya” and other specialty retail tenants under the banner “Hanoi Takashimaya S.C.” Floors 7 through 10 will be designated for office use.
The site is situated approximately 6 km northwest of central Hanoi, in the Tay Ho Tay area, which spans about 563,000 tsubo (approx. 1.86 million sq. ft.). The area neighbors a cluster of foreign embassies and is part of a wider urban plan involving the relocation of government offices and new rail infrastructure. The Starlake project is a master-planned urban development that includes residential, commercial, office, and public facilities.
Toshin Development is overseeing two parcels within Starlake. On Parcel A (approx. 6,350 tsubo / 21,000 sq. ft.), the company partnered with a local education provider to open “The Dewey Schools,” an international school launched in February 2021. For Parcel B (approx. 5,140 tsubo / 17,000 sq. ft.), Toshin acquired land use rights from THT Development and is now constructing Westlake Square Hanoi on a portion of approx. 5,217 tsubo (approx. 17,200 sq. ft.).
Phase I will deliver a Gross Floor Area of approx. 13,007 tsubo (approx. 43,000 sq. ft.), including approx. 10,587 tsubo (approx. 35,000 sq. ft.) of retail space—of which Takashimaya will occupy approx. 2,873 tsubo (approx. 9,500 sq. ft.) including parking—and approx. 2,420 tsubo (approx. 8,000 sq. ft.) of office space. Phase II, planned for post-2030, will add approx. 18,150 tsubo (approx. 60,000 sq. ft.) of GFA.
