BioLabs to Launch First Asian Coworking Wet Lab “BioLabs Tokyo” in Mitsui LINK-Lab Shin-Kiba

BioLabs will open “BioLabs Tokyo,” a coworking wet lab and its first directly operated site in Asia, at “MITSUI LINK-Lab SHINKIBA 2” in Shin-Kiba, Tokyo, from spring 2026 onward. With support from Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. and Life Science Innovation Network Japan (LINK-J), the facility will provide an environment that accelerates research and development for life-science startups.
“BioLabs Tokyo” will feature 66 planned wet-lab bench seats and private lab suites, alongside office and lounge areas. Membership will be available from a single bench, and the operator plans to run an incubation program based on international screening standards while leveraging its global venture-capital network.
Headquartered in Massachusetts, BioLabs operates 16 directly managed sites across the U.S. and Europe and has supported more than 500 startups to date; in the U.S., roughly 20% of early-stage biotech startups have received support from the company. Shin-Kiba is an eight-minute train ride from Tokyo Station, and as of August 2025, 60 companies occupy the four Mitsui LINK-Lab facilities in Shin-Kiba. A diverse researcher community—including entrants from other industries such as Preferred Networks and Daikin Industries—has formed, making it a suitable base for BioLabs to nurture Japan-born startups.
Mitsui Fudosan is strengthening Shin-Kiba’s role as a research hub by developing four facilities in the area, while positioning the Nihonbashi district as a business hub where major pharmaceutical companies and venture capital firms are concentrated—building an ecosystem through a division of roles between Nihonbashi and Shin-Kiba.
