Hilton's LXR Brand to Debut in Hiroshima with Umiuta Hiroshima

Umiuta Hiroshima, LXR Hotels & Resorts, a luxury hotel developed by Godo Kaisha Miyajima Development and operated by Hilton, will open in Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. This marks the first entry into Hiroshima Prefecture for Hilton's luxury brand LXR Hotels & Resorts, and the company's second property in the prefecture following Hilton Hiroshima, which opened in 2022. Construction is scheduled to start in August 2026, with completion planned for June 2028.

The planned site is located on the waterfront of the Miyajimaguchi area, offering views of the Great Torii Gate of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Itsukushima Shrine, an area where hotels such as Kai Miyajima are concentrated. The building will be seven stories above ground and is planned to have 61 guest rooms.

LXR is Hilton's luxury brand; in Japan, ROKU KYOTO, LXR Hotels & Resorts opened in Kyoto in 2021. In 2027, Hotel Gajoen Tokyo in Meguro, Tokyo, is scheduled to be rebranded and reopened as Gajoen Tokyo LXR Hotels & Resorts, and the brand is also planned to open at the (tentative) Hakone Gora Hotel Project, jointly developed by The Sankei Building and Haseko Real Estate Development in Gora, Hakone, in 2028.

Lodging demand in Hiroshima Prefecture is recovering, driven mainly by inbound tourism. According to the Hiroshima Prefecture Tourism Association, the number of overnight guest-stays in the prefecture in 2024 totaled 11.67 million, up 15.7% from 2019, of which overnight stays by foreign visitors totaled 1.8 million, up 38.6% from 2019. In the Kamiyacho and Hatchobori areas of central Hiroshima City, openings are also planned for hotels such as the Hyatt-affiliated Andaz Hiroshima and the Marriott-affiliated Courtyard by Marriott Hiroshima, as hotel development continues in regional tourist cities where demand is recovering.
