Mitsubishi Estate Breaks Ground on YURAKUCHO PARK at Former Yurakucho Building Site
Mitsubishi Estate will break ground on Sept. 1, 2026, on YURAKUCHO PARK at the former sites of the Yurakucho Building and the Shin-Yurakucho Building in front of Yurakucho Station in Tokyo. Using the lead time before the two buildings are rebuilt, it will create restaurant and retail space and an event space on a site of about 1 hectare. NOT A HOTEL is taking part in the planning, design and production, jointly rolling out its new project JAPA VALLEY TOKYO. Completion and opening are scheduled for 2027.
The above-ground portions of the Yurakucho Building and the Shin-Yurakucho Building will be demolished, and the project will be built on an artificial ground plane supported by the remaining basement structures. At the Shin-Yurakucho Building, one span connecting to the station will be retained from the second basement level to the second floor to preserve the link to the subway. The project also adopts circular architecture, under which parts of the buildings and plantings can be relocated elsewhere after the operating period.
The Mitsubishi Estate Group positions its post-2020 placemaking in the Otemachi, Marunouchi and Yurakucho area as the Marunouchi NEXT Stage, with Tokiwabashi and Yurakucho — the two wings of the Marunouchi district — as priority development areas. In Yurakucho, it is advancing the (tentative name) Marunouchi 3-1 Project to rebuild the Kokusai Building and the Teigeki Building, and it is also renovating the Shin-Kokusai Building. Centered on Marunouchi, large-scale development and the renewal of existing stock are progressing in neighboring Tokiwabashi and Yurakucho as well.
